About Chania

Chania is the second largest city of Crete, situated on the northwest of the island and the most evocative of the island. The city is divided in two parts: the old town and the modern city. Venetian and Turkish influence marks the Old Town. A Venetian quarter of atmospheric streets lead to a unique harbor. Some of the Venetian tower-houses have been restored to host boutique hotels and fine restaurants. The former mosque on the harbour adds to the charm of the city. Chania has some of the finest restaurants of an island that boasts for its cuisine. Spending a few days on the Old Town is totally rewarding. Consider it also as a transit point before you trek the Samaria Gorge. Chania is connected to Piraeus daily by ferry boat and speed boat. The city is also connected daily to Heraklio, Rethymno and Agios Nikolaos and several islands at the Cyclades and the Dodecanese via Heraklio.
