Chania

Chania

Chaniá is the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania's peripheral unit. It lies along the north coast of the island, about 70 km (43 mi) west of Rethymno and 145 km (90 mi) west of Heraklion. Chania's climate consists of sunny dry summers and mild rainy winters.

The city of Chania is divided in two parts: the Old Town and the Modern City, which is the larger one. The Old Town is situated next to the Old Venetian Harbor, one of the most picturesque locations of Chania where every visitor may enjoy walking around, having some relaxing time or even admiring the gorgeous view.

The Old Venetian Harbor unites the Old Town with the Modern City.  During the older times, it is used to be surrounded by the old Venetian fortifications that were built in 1538.

Today, only the Eastern and the the Western parts  have survived.  From South, the Old Town is continuous with the new, and from the North the physical border is the sea. The center of the Modern City is the area extending next to the Old Town, especially towards the South.

Chania is a city with many places you need to explore and see; obviously, the best way to explore it is by renting a car!
